Overview

Diplodocus was an extraordinarily long sauropod with a whip-like tail that may have been used to produce sonic booms. Its elongated neck and slender build made it one of the longest dinosaurs known.

Diplodocus could reach lengths of 27 meters, much of which was neck and tail.

Its tail was extraordinarily long and may have been used as a whip for defense.

Diplodocus had peg-like teeth confined to the front of its jaw, ideal for stripping leaves.

Cast replicas of Diplodocus skeletons were famously gifted to museums worldwide by Andrew Carnegie.
